This work was part of an artistic projects investigating the idea of lingustic purism in Iceland and is losely based on the poem Sótt og dauði íslenskunnar by Eggert Ólafsson in which he personifies his mother tongue as a woman, who has fallen mortally ill through an infection with too many foreign words.
The invasive lupine plant has in recent years come to dominate the icelandic flora and hence changed the landscape that is instrinsically linked to the icelandic identity. Lupina plays with the idea of the lupine as an integral part of the national image displaying it as a national costume or part of a heritage in an attempt to embrace the lupine as a part of a new national identity.
